North Korean leader Kim Jong Un conducted an inspection visit to a munitions factory in Pyongyang, North Korea, on March 11, 2026, according to a report released by the state media on March 12. The visit attracted international attention as Kim appeared alongside his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, during an activity directly related to the country’s weapons production.

The visit was reported by the state-run news agency Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), which stated that the inspection was part of Kim Jong Un’s efforts to personally oversee the country’s defense industry. The North Korean leader was said to be reviewing the factory’s operational performance and ensuring that the facility could increase both the scale and efficiency of ammunition production for the military.

According to the KCNA report, the visit was arranged amid ongoing government initiatives to strengthen the country’s military industrial sector. Over recent years, Pyongyang has intensified efforts to modernize its defense manufacturing, including expanding the production of small arms, ammunition, and other military equipment intended to support the operational readiness of the Korean People’s Army.

Upon arriving at the factory complex, Kim Jong Un was accompanied by several senior military officials and defense industry authorities. During the tour, he inspected multiple sections of the production line where workers manufacture various types of ammunition and small arms used by North Korea’s armed forces. Factory managers and engineers reportedly briefed Kim on production capacity, technological processes, and plans to upgrade the facility.

During the inspection, Kim Jong Un also visited a testing area within the complex where newly produced firearms were demonstrated. According to the state media report, Kim personally examined several weapons and tested them at a shooting range set up within the factory grounds. The presence of his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, who accompanied him during the inspection and observed the demonstrations, drew notable attention from international observers.

In remarks quoted by KCNA, Kim Jong Un emphasized the strategic importance of the ammunition industry for strengthening the country’s military capabilities. He reportedly instructed officials to further enhance the production quality and expand output levels to ensure that North Korea’s armed forces are fully equipped to defend the country against potential threats.

Analysts noted that the visit appeared to serve both practical and symbolic purposes. By inspecting the factory in person and bringing his daughter to the event, Kim was seen as demonstrating the government’s continued focus on strengthening its conventional military power alongside its widely known missile and strategic weapons programs.

The development has drawn international scrutiny as it occurred amid heightened geopolitical tensions in East Asia. However, North Korean state media described the inspection as part of routine efforts by the leadership to reinforce national defense and improve the readiness of the country’s military forces.
