FBI Releases Full Chronology of Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance in Tucson, Suspected Kidnapping on January 31, 2026

en01.web.id – Arizona. An elderly woman named Nancy Guthrie (84) was reported missing from her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona, United States, on Friday night, January 31, 2026. The case is now being treated as a suspected kidnapping after investigators discovered physical evidence indicating a possible violent encounter. The victim is the mother of Savannah Guthrie, a well-known co-host of NBC’s Today Show, which has drawn national and international attention to the investigation.

According to an official statement from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Nancy was last seen around 7:30 p.m. by a neighbor who noticed that the lights in her house were still on. The following morning, Saturday, February 1, 2026, family members were unable to reach her by phone, which was unusual. Concerned, her daughter asked a neighbor to check on the house. When the door was opened, Nancy was not inside, while her phone, wallet, car keys, and daily medications were all found left behind.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators immediately noticed suspicious conditions inside the home. “We found blood stains near the front door, and forensic testing later confirmed that the DNA matched the victim. Based on the evidence, this is not a simple missing person case but a suspected abduction,” Nanos said during a press briefing.

Due to the serious nature of the findings, the investigation was expanded with the involvement of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). FBI Special Agent in Charge for Arizona, Douglas Smith, stated that agents analyzed footage from the home’s doorbell camera. “The video shows an unidentified male standing outside Nancy Guthrie’s residence shortly before she disappeared. The individual was wearing a mask, gloves, and carrying a black backpack,” Smith said.

The FBI later released a public description of the suspect, identifying him as a male approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build. The suspect was seen carrying an Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack. Additional surveillance footage from nearby homes suggested that the same individual had been seen in the neighborhood several times in the days leading up to the disappearance.

To encourage public cooperation, the FBI increased the reward for information to $100,000 for tips that could lead to locating Nancy Guthrie or identifying the suspect. “We have received more than 13,000 tips from the public so far, but none have yet provided a direct breakthrough,” Smith said.

Investigators also recovered a pair of gloves on a roadside about two kilometers from Guthrie’s home. The item is currently being analyzed for forensic evidence. Authorities have asked residents in the Catalina Foothills area to submit private CCTV footage from the past month to help trace the suspect’s movements before and after the incident.

Family members told police that Nancy Guthrie had serious health issues, including heart problems and limited mobility, making it highly unlikely that she would leave home voluntarily. The fact that her essential medication was left behind further supports the theory that the disappearance occurred suddenly and against her will.

As of mid-February 2026, Nancy Guthrie has not been found. Authorities have officially classified the case as an active kidnapping investigation. “We will continue this search until we find Nancy and hold whoever is responsible accountable,” Sheriff Chris Nanos said. The case remains one of the most closely watched criminal investigations in the United States, particularly because of its connection to a prominent national media figure.
