President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto began his first overseas visit of 2026 by traveling to the United Kingdom and Switzerland on Sunday (January 18, 2026). The visit is part of the Indonesian government’s diplomatic efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance Indonesia’s role in global economic and environmental cooperation.
President Prabowo departed from Jakarta for London, accompanied by several ministers of the Red and White Cabinet and senior state officials. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the trip was an official state visit conducted at the invitation of the British government.
“The President is undertaking an official visit to the United Kingdom and Switzerland to strengthen bilateral relations and to attend strategic international forums,” Teddy said in a written statement on Sunday.
During his stay in the United Kingdom, President Prabowo is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The meeting is expected to discuss cooperation in a number of areas, including trade and investment, defense, education, as well as energy transition and the green economy. The UK is considered one of Indonesia’s key strategic partners in Europe.
In addition to meeting the British Prime Minister, President Prabowo is also scheduled to hold an audience with King Charles III. According to Teddy Indra Wijaya, the meeting carries symbolic and strategic significance, particularly in strengthening bilateral ties and shared commitments on environmental and climate change issues.
“The audience with King Charles III reflects the shared commitment of both countries to addressing global environmental challenges,” he said.
After completing his official agenda in the United Kingdom, President Prabowo will continue his visit to Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos. Indonesia’s participation in the forum aims to present the country’s economic policy direction and expand international cooperation networks.
At the WEF, President Prabowo is scheduled to attend a series of meetings with world leaders, heads of international organizations, and global business figures. The Indonesian government plans to use the forum to promote investment opportunities, particularly in strategic industries, food security, and sustainable development.
The overseas visit takes place amid global dynamics marked by economic uncertainty, geopolitical challenges, and climate change concerns. The government views the President’s direct engagement in international forums and bilateral meetings as a strategic step to safeguard national interests and strengthen Indonesia’s position as a credible global partner.
Overall, President Prabowo’s first overseas visit of 2026 reflects Indonesia’s active and constructive foreign policy, with a strong focus on economic diplomacy and the country’s contribution to addressing global issues. The government expects the visit to result in concrete cooperation that will support Indonesia’s economic growth and global standing.
