Police in Houston, Texas, have arrested a restaurant employee after a hidden camera was discovered inside a customer bathroom at the popular restaurant Lupe Tortilla. The case, which emerged in late December 2025, was officially disclosed to the public on Thursday, January 2, 2026, following an initial investigation by local authorities.
The suspect was identified as Bayson Elias Pu (31), an employee at the restaurant. He was taken into custody by the Hedwig Village Police Department and has been charged with invasive visual recording, a serious felony offense under Texas law involving the illegal recording of individuals in private spaces without their consent.
According to investigators, the incident came to light after a small recording device was found concealed inside a restroom used by customers. Restaurant management immediately reported the discovery to police, who secured the device and conducted a forensic examination of its contents.
Authorities confirmed that at least two video files were recovered from the camera. The footage reportedly shows adult women and a young girl inside the restroom in private and vulnerable situations. The recordings formed the basis for escalating the investigation and formally charging the suspect.
Police stated that the camera was allegedly intentionally installed to secretly record customers without their knowledge. Investigators are continuing to determine how long the device had been in place and whether additional victims may have been recorded but have not yet been identified.
Pu was arrested on December 31, 2025, and later appeared before a judge. The court set his bond at $150,000, which was posted, allowing him to be released from custody pending further legal proceedings.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that illegal recording in private areas, particularly bathrooms, is considered a severe criminal offense in Texas. The potential penalties could be significant, especially because the case involves the alleged recording of a minor, which may lead to enhanced charges if proven in court.
Lupe Tortilla management said it is fully cooperating with authorities and stressed that the alleged actions do not reflect the company’s values or policies. Police have urged anyone who visited the restaurant and believes they may have been affected to contact investigators as the inquiry remains ongoing.
