Mass Shooting at Salamanca Soccer Field Leaves 11 Dead
en01.web.id – Mexico. A mass shooting occurred at the Loma de Flores community soccer field in Salamanca, Guanajuato state, Mexico, on Sunday afternoon, January 25, 2026, leaving 11 people dead and at least 12 others injured. The attack took place while residents were still gathered at the field following an amateur soccer match.
According to the Guanajuato State Attorney General’s Office (FiscalÃa General del Estado), the shooting happened at approximately 5:20 p.m. local time. At that moment, players, spectators, and nearby residents remained in the area, socializing and resting after the match had concluded.
The incident began when several vehicles arrived near the soccer field. A group of armed men exited the vehicles and immediately opened fire on the crowd without warning. The gunfire lasted several minutes, causing panic as people ran in different directions in an attempt to escape.
“Ten people died at the scene, while one additional victim died later at a hospital after receiving medical treatment,” said Carlos Zamarripa Aguirre, Attorney General of Guanajuato State, in an official statement released Sunday evening.
In addition to the fatalities, at least 12 people sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to hospitals in Salamanca and surrounding areas. Medical authorities reported that several victims suffered serious injuries and remain under intensive care.
Police officers and emergency services arrived shortly after receiving reports of the shooting. The soccer field in Loma de Flores was secured and cordoned off, while security forces conducted searches in the surrounding area. However, the attackers had already fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Guanajuato Governor Diego Sinhue RodrÃguez Vallejo strongly condemned the attack. “We will not allow this brutal act to go unpunished. State and federal security forces have been deployed to locate and arrest those responsible,” he said in an official government statement.
As of publication, the motive behind the shooting has not been officially confirmed. Authorities noted that Guanajuato remains one of Mexico’s most violent states, with frequent incidents linked to organized crime conflicts. The State Attorney General’s Office said the investigation is focused on identifying the perpetrators, determining possible criminal affiliations, and clarifying the circumstances behind the attack.
