The leaders of Japan and South Korea have agreed to strengthen economic cooperation and enhance coordination in addressing regional challenges, according to official statements released on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. The agreement was reached during a bilateral summit held as part of ongoing high-level diplomatic engagements between the two neighboring countries.

In a statement issued by the Japanese government, the meeting focused on shared concerns over global economic uncertainty, supply chain stability, and regional security developments. 

“Japan and South Korea confirmed the importance of close cooperation to maintain economic stability and peace in the region,” the statement said.

The South Korean presidential office also confirmed the discussions, noting that both sides emphasized a pragmatic and forward-looking approach to bilateral relations.
