en01.web.id – East Java. A 76-year-old man has been arrested by police after allegedly killing his own biological son by striking him with a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder while the victim was asleep at their home in Lamongan Regency, East Java, on Friday morning, January 23, 2026.

The incident occurred at a residence in Talun Hamlet, Sidogembul Village, Sukodadi District, Lamongan Regency. The victim, identified by police as SO (56), was found dead with severe head injuries inside the house where he lived with his family. The alleged perpetrator is the victim’s father, identified as SN (76).

According to police, the crime was discovered at around 05:30 a.m. local time, when the victim’s wife returned home from the market and found her husband lying motionless and covered in blood in the living room. Residents who became aware of the situation immediately contacted local authorities.

Head of Sukodadi Police Sector, First Inspector M. Sokep, confirmed the incident and said officers responded quickly after receiving the report.

“After receiving information from residents, our officers immediately went to the scene and conducted a crime scene investigation. The victim was confirmed dead at the location,” Iptu M. Sokep said on Friday.

Police investigators believe the suspect attacked the victim while he was asleep. Based on preliminary findings, the suspect allegedly took a 3-kilogram LPG gas cylinder from the kitchen and struck the victim’s head multiple times, causing fatal injuries.

“We secured an LPG gas cylinder believed to have been used as the weapon, along with several other items from the scene. Initial evidence indicates a violent assault resulting in death,” Iptu M. Sokep explained.

Following the incident, the suspect was immediately taken into custody and transferred to Lamongan Police Headquarters for further questioning. Police are currently conducting intensive examinations of witnesses, including family members and neighbors, to reconstruct the full sequence of events.

At this stage, investigators have not yet disclosed the motive behind the killing.

“The motive is still under investigation. We are exploring all possible factors, including family conflict and psychological conditions,” Iptu M. Sokep added.

The victim’s body was transported to Dr. Soegiri Regional Hospital in Lamongan for a forensic examination to support the ongoing criminal investigation. Police stated that the autopsy results will play a key role in determining the legal charges.

The suspect is expected to be charged under Indonesia’s Criminal Code for murder, with potential additional charges related to domestic violence resulting in death. Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and further developments will be announced once the case file is complete.
