The Ludhiana City Police in Punjab, India, have successfully dismantled a major theft syndicate that had been terrorizing the city’s industrial sector. In a coordinated operation carried out on Tuesday (December 30, 2025), officers arrested four gang members believed to be responsible for a series of large-scale thefts from factories and warehouses, seizing high-value stolen goods and illegal contraband.
The case originated from a formal complaint filed by Gagandeep Singh, the owner of a garment manufacturing unit, who reported the disappearance of large quantities of production materials from his facility. Investigators from the Moti Nagar Police Station subsequently uncovered a pattern of similar thefts across several industrial zones in Ludhiana, prompting a full-scale investigation.
After weeks of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and analysis of suspect movements, the police launched a targeted raid led by Sub-Inspector Bhupinder Singh. The operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects, identified as the core operators of an organized criminal network that had been active in the region for an extended period.
The arrested suspects were identified as Tarun Kapoor alias Lucky, Saman Singh, Ramandeep Singh alias Jassu, and Tanveer Malik. Authorities revealed that Tarun Kapoor was the mastermind of the gang, with a criminal record spanning at least 24 previous cases, primarily involving theft and illegal trade activities.
During the operation, police recovered 16 large bags of stolen textile materials, a Mahindra Bolero pickup truck used to transport the stolen goods, and 30 cartons of illegal liquor, equivalent to approximately 1,440 bottles. In addition to theft charges, the suspects have also been booked under the Excise Act for unlawful possession of alcohol.
Investigators said the syndicate operated with careful planning, exploiting security gaps at industrial facilities during vulnerable hours. The stolen materials were systematically removed, transported, and sold through a network of receivers. Tanveer Malik is believed to have played a key role in purchasing and distributing the stolen merchandise within underground markets.
Police confirmed that two additional gang members remain at large and have been declared wanted. Authorities are expanding the investigation to determine whether the group has links to wider criminal operations, including smuggling and illegal distribution networks operating across district and state lines.
The Ludhiana Police emphasized that dismantling this syndicate marks a significant step toward safeguarding the city’s industrial backbone. Business owners have been urged to strengthen security measures and promptly report suspicious activities to prevent similar crimes in the future.
